Beer & Wine Competitions
Feb 6th - Cass River Homebrew Competition - Accepting entries now. $6 per entry, two bottles required. For the second year in a row, we are donating gift certificates to support this Michigan homebrew club's competition.
Last year they received 329 entries representing a total of 16 states. The competition date has been moved forward so I apologize for not posting this earlier.
July - Indy Brewer's Cup - This competition is in July. Entries must be received in June. I will post more when they have enry forms available online.
Two Bloomington homebrewers won awards in the Belgian & French Ale category in last year's competition. Congratulations goes to Sean Lewis & Ryan Clarke for placing first & third, respectively. Great job guys!
And I did get to taste Sean's belgian "Perpetual Slumber". It was excellent! Thanks for the sample ;)
May 15th - Upland Brewing Co. UpCup - Only $5 to enter. One entry per brewer, 2 bottles required. The winner will receive a trophy, have the chance to brew their recipe in the Upland brew house, and have their beer entered in the 2010 Great American Beer Fest Pro-Am competition. Entry deadline is May 7th.
June - Indy International Wine Competition** - This competition takes place in June. This year, Purdue will host it at their West Lafayette campus. Several of our homewinemakers cleaned up the the 2009 Indy! A special congratulations to our following award winners:
Karen & Lee Huss, David Jenkins, Ellen Jacquart, Julie & Steve Pichon, Kim Scherschel, Robert Shakespeare, Doug Skinner & Janine Copeland. Extra special congrats goes to David with his Double-gold medal awarded for his Indiana Uplands-grown Chardonel. Impressive work!
April 16th to 18th - Winemaker Competition** - Currently accepting entries. Entry Deadline is March 15th. $25 per entry, only 1-750 mL bottle required. Enter your wines now to compete in the largest homewinemaking competition in the world!
April 24th - FITA 2010 Wine Competition (Fermenters International Trade Association, formerly known as the HWBTA) Entry deadline is April 17th - only one 750 mL bottle required - just $12 per entry
**Any winemaker who wins a medal with a wine made from a Winexpert wine kit in either the Indy, FITA or the Winemaker competitions will receive a free wine kit! (The kit chosen for prize must be equal or lesser value of the medal award winning kit.)
Hops!
You will find an updated variety & pricing pdf file below. There are a few varieties still available in the pre-weighed one ounce bags but bulk hops can be weighed out as needed.
We are stock a small selection of organic hops, dried malt extract and grains. Check the current pricing for the organic pellets on the hop varieties list below. The grains & malt extract pricing are in our catalog.
Up til the end of March, all preweighed 1 oz pellets are 20% off. This includes all the organic hops, so be sure to consider using some organic cascade or one of these less usual varieties in your next beer.

FYI - Here is a description sheet of all varieties, including new varieties with some
recommended substitutions. So try a new variety today :) As for specific in-stocks & out-of-stocks: UK Kent Golding, German Perle and Target are not available.
However, we do have US Perle & Golding. But perle leaf hops are not available.
Hop Rhizomes!
We have received a list of available rhizome varieties. If you want to grow your own hops, check out this list of rhizomes available for 2010.
